MDAC is Collecting the Stories of Medicaid Participants Accessing Dental Care
Maryland Medicaid has provided hundreds of thousands of Maryland adults with dental care since the program launch in January 2023. Comprehensive coverage includes a range of preventative, diagnostic and restorative services without an annual ceiling on services provided to participants each year.
Maryland Dental Action Coalition (MDAC) efforts to support adult dental expansion — through social media campaigns, outreach strategies, strategic engagement, and key partnerships—continue to deliver impressive and measurable results. While utilization data underscores the overwhelming success of the program, challenges exist that could jeopardize the availability and access to care for Marylanders and millions nationwide, with the biggest potential impact expected to occur next year. This threat underscores the urgency to reiterate and document the impact dental care has had on Maryland Medicaid participants, especially for the adult community.
To further document the critical importance of oral health and its impact on overall health and wellbeing, MDAC is collecting stories and experiences of Marylanders who have accessed dental services through Maryland Medicaid’s Maryland Healthy Smiles Dental Program to learn more about how the dental care people received through this program has impacted their lives.
MDAC is looking to connect with adult Medicaid participants who have accessed dental care within the last 3 years. To facilitate participation, we are offering multiple ways for people to share stories with us, including 1:1 interviews, completing a short survey, submitting a video or written story, or participating in a focus group. To get started, we ask participants to complete a brief interest form, and an MDAC staff member will get back to you within a few business days.
Gift Cards for Participation
As a thank you for sharing your valuable experiences, MDAC will be offering gift cards for those who participate in the project. If you complete the Dental Experience Survey or submit a video or written story, you can select to be entered into a monthly drawing for a $25 gift card. One recipient will be selected every month between March and June 2026. All participants volunteering to participate and complete a 1:1 interview or focus group will receive a $25 gift card. Additional details about these opportunities will be shared with participants after completion of the interest form.
Your information will be keep private.
Your answers will be private and anonymous and MDAC will not share a participant’s name or anything that can identify a participant. Taking this survey will not affect Medicaid coverage in any way.
