Donna Behrens, RN, MPH, BSN, has been working in the field of school-based health care since 1994. Most recently, she was the Associate Director of the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools at the George Washington University Milken School of Public Health from 2007 to 2014. Prior to joining the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools, Ms. Behrens held the position of Executive Director of the Maryland Assembly on School-Based Health Care from 2005 until 2007 and before that she served as Director of Health Policy and Director of the School-Based Health Center Initiative in the Maryland Governor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families. She currently is working with the School Based Health Alliance leading their new oral health project. In these many leadership positions in the state of Maryland and the national Center for Health and Health Care in Schools, she has used her extensive background in nursing, children’s health, mental health, policy and program development to strengthen school based systems of health care and improve the health outcomes of children and adolescents. Ms. Behrens received Associate and Bachelor’s degrees in nursing from Prince George’s County Community College and Catholic University of America respectively and a Masters Degree in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
